Photo recovery for complex proprietary digital image files

Digital photo recovery presents a unique situation different than most simple file recovery problems. The reasons for this are two-fold. First, recovery of lost image files usually takes place in two different locations, these are the hard drive of your computer and whatever storage media being used on your digital camera. Second, digital photo files are stored in both conventional image file types such as jpegs and proprietary file types as created by the camera manufacturer.

For example Canon Digital SLRs store their files onto the attached high density secure digital card in the unique Canon format. There are two of these, .crw and .cr2. Your digital photo rescue tool must be expressly designed for Canon file recovery. It must be able to recognize these proprietary file types and reconstruct them. Most general purpose data recovery tools are not designed to recognize unique file types. While they may be able to find common image files, rarely are these programs capable of Canon file recovery.
